Choosing aluminium-framed noticeboards for schools
An aluminium frame is only one part of a useful noticeboard. The display surface, frame projection and mounting arrangement determine how the board works in a busy school. Plan around the notices people need to read, the wall available and the staff who will maintain the display.
Measure the display, including its frame
Start with the papers or work you intend to display. Arrange sample sheets on a table with the gaps, headings and borders you want, then measure the full layout. Compare that figure with the board’s usable surface rather than relying on its overall dimensions. A frame, concealed fixing cover or rounded corner may occupy space that a paper layout assumes is available.
Consider the frame’s projection into the room and the finish at the corners. In a narrow office, a projecting edge near a frequently used chair may matter more than a small difference in colour. Check whether the proposed position permits comfortable reading without standing in a doorway.
Plan a readable school display
For a staff training board, reserve one section for dates, one for booking instructions and one for short updates. Use a consistent heading style and identify who may replace material. A useful trial is to mount paper outlines on the intended wall and ask a colleague to find the next training date from the usual approach direction.
Choose the notice-holding method deliberately. Pins, hook-and-loop material and other attachments need a compatible backing. Do not assume that a metal frame means the display surface accepts magnets. Confirm this separately in the product specification.
Install and maintain the complete board
Ask the premises team to assess the wall and select fixings appropriate to its construction and the loaded board. Follow the board’s installation instructions, including any required fixing positions. Keep packaging and model details until the fitting has been checked.
During routine display changes, inspect corners, covers and fixings. Wipe the frame with a suitable method, remove abandoned staples or pins and replace tired backing material where the design permits. Record the actual display area so future staff can prepare notices that fit without trimming important information.
Action checklist
- Measure usable surface and overall dimensions separately.
- Check corner finish and frame projection.
- Confirm the backing suits the chosen attachments.
- Have the wall and fixing method assessed.
Common questions
Does an aluminium frame make a noticeboard magnetic?
No. Magnet compatibility depends on the display surface, which must be checked independently of the frame material.
