Privacy at Schools Direct.

This reference site is designed to collect as little information as it needs to work.

Reading the library

You do not need an account to read guides, search or use the tools. The application does not include advertising networks, analytics trackers, third-party fonts, embedded videos or social tracking widgets. It does not provide public registration, payment collection or a contact form.

The hosting server may create ordinary access and error logs when a page is requested. These can include an IP address, requested address, time and browser information. Hosting configuration determines their retention. Such logs support operation, fault diagnosis and security; they are separate from the application activity list described below.

Search terms are sent to this website in the page address so it can return relevant guide results. The application does not maintain a separate database of personal search histories. A search term can still appear in browser history and standard server logs. Do not enter pupil details, passwords or other confidential information into search.

Planning tools

The budget planner, comparison worksheet and label layout planner process entries inside your browser. They do not transmit those figures or system names to the application. Downloading a CSV or label-layout SVG creates a file on your device.

The website checklist only saves ticks in browser storage if you select “Save progress on this device”. You can remove them with the reset button, turn off saving or clear site data in your browser. Avoid saving on a shared device. No pupil data or school account credentials are needed for any tool.

Editor accounts

The private administration area stores authorised editors' names, email addresses and password hashes. Essential session cookies keep editors signed in and protect submitted forms. Passwords are not stored as readable text. There is no public sign-up or email marketing list.

Old and unmatched addresses

The application keeps a limited list of unmatched URL paths to help repair incoming links. It records the path, a sampled count and the last time seen. It does not store an IP address, referrer or visitor identifier in this list. Only a small allowlist of historic catalogue query parameters is retained; tracking and arbitrary query parameters are discarded.

Records not seen for 90 days are removed by scheduled maintenance, and the list is capped at 10,000 different paths. A requested path could itself contain information supplied by a visitor, so sensitive-looking paths are excluded where detected. Please do not place personal information in addresses you request.

Cookies and changes

The cookie page explains the site's session and optional browser storage. This notice describes the application as supplied for launch. If the operator adds analytics, forms, embeds, advertising or other services, the notice and consent arrangements need to reflect those changes before the additions are used.
